Do you know approximately 36 million tonnes of food is wasted in Pakistan every year?
Wasting food not only creates serious environmental problems but also shrinks the amount of money that could’ve been saved if this food was consumed. So by avoiding wastage of food, you will not only save the environment but increase your personal savings as well!
The most important part of saving money and food is to record everything. You should always know how much of which fruit/ingredient is left before going out for grocery shopping. Chances are that you might end up with extra if you don’t keep a record. This way you will be wasting food if it’s perishable like bananas.
Storing food properly is another important element when it comes to saving. For this purpose, airtight containers and freezers are required. With the help of these types of equipment, we can store fruits, vegetables, meat, and even cooked food for a while. But if we forget to close the containers properly or if our freezer stops working then our food may turn bad and lose its quality. Eventually, we will have to throw it away, and waste both; our food and money.
Eating leftovers is also something that will help you save. Whether you’re at a restaurant or cooking at home, if you’re left with anything, store it. Even if it’s not enough for a meal, still do it and have it as a snack or cook less the next day. For example, if you are left with one extra bread and some vegetables at dinner, don’t throw it in the trash. Instead, put both the things separately in the freezer and have it the next day for lunch. This way you will not only save money for lunch but also won’t have to cook!
